CALLING ALL STUDENT ARTISTS: I’m looking forward to my 2011 Congressional Arts Competition, an annual event celebrating the community’s best young artists. The deadline for entries is April 12-14 and must be completed according to the competition guidelines, which are on my Web site. In addition to having your artwork at the Capitol, winners of the competition will be eligible for college scholarships from the Art Institute of Atlanta ($10,000, $5,000, and $2,500) or the Savannah College of Art and Design ($1,500 per year). For more, click here.

VETERANS, MILITARY AND THEIR FAMILIES EXPO: We owe our service members, their families and all our veterans an immeasurable debt. To ensure they receive their full benefits, I’m holding a Veterans and Armed Forces Expo on Friday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at DeKalb Technical College in Clarkston. We’ll have Veterans Administration and other officials on hand to help file disability and pension claims, assist with employment strategies, issue home loan guaranty certificates and address mortgage concerns, answer questions about health care eligibility, and provide information to access many other benefits and services.

We’re holding this event in conjunction with DeKalb County, but all veterans, active military personnel and their families from throughout the Fourth District are welcome. We’ll post more details on the Veterans section of my Web site as they become available, so please stay tuned. For more information, e-mail and we will get back with you ASAP.

SURPASSING $3 MILLION IN CONSTITUENT SERVICE: Since taking office in 2007, I’ve worked to secure $3,168,602.38 for those seeking help from my office with Veterans and IRS issues, Social Security, Medicare and other federal agencies. Helping my constituents navigate the federal bureaucracy is one of the most important things I do.

When I first ran for office in 2006, I promised I would take care of home first. I’m here to ensure that constituents receive the money and benefits due them from the federal government. As always, I value constituents’ input and welcome their comments. Being District 4’s representative in Washington is a singular honor, and I appreciate helping constituents above everything else. Listening to residents and bringing their concerns to Washington is why I’m here. For more, click here.

Please share this e-letter with friends and family who live in the Fourth District and encourage them to sign up to receive these free online newsletters. Also, follow me on Twitter and Facebook.
