Greetings Beautiful Family and Friends!
I trust that you and your wonderful families had a great Independence Day holiday! For the 4th of July, Tony and I elected to take a road trip! We thought about it! And we decided, why not go to the birthplace of America’s independence? We set our sights on historic Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – a city rich in history, culture, fine architecture and remarkable landmarks! The beautiful hometown of my good friends Tan, Don and Lanada did not disappoint! We arrived in the midst of the Wawa Welcome America Philadelphia Celebration! The 8-Day Festival culminated on July 4th with the largest FREE concert in America featuring The Roots and surprise guest Cee-lo! I tell you! It was INCREDIBLE!!! As you read this travel piece, I trust that you find lots of exciting things to do that will help you plan a trip to the “City of Brotherly Love” in the weeks and months to come! As customary, please find helpful resources that include jobs, discounts, FREE Stuff and much more! Thanks and have a great week!
Le Méridien Philadelphia Hotel
This was my first time visiting the historic city of Philadelphia. I knew that I wanted a hotel in the midst of the fun celebrations, interesting attractions, prominent landmarks and popular restaurants. Therefore, I went to my favorite search engines TripAdvisor and Expedia. There are several luxury hotels located in this area! I selected the Le Méridien and an excellent choice it was. This contemporary hotel is stunningly beautiful! The modern décor blends seamlessly and elegantly with historical architecture. Every aspect of the Le Méridien is magnificent. When making your reservations, it’s always a great idea to ask for a room with a view. I was able to look out at Philadelphia City Hall – one of the most beautiful public buildings I’ve ever seen.
Fabulous Amenities and Design are Simply Divine
Upon our arrival and throughout our stay, nice gentlemen (valet) were there to greet and assist us! They anticipated our every need! How wonderful! Each person on the staff was very kind and most helpful! The hotel had a splendid black and white theme flowing throughout the building. The fine rooms feature beds with European-style linen and a desk/dresser holding a flat screen TV. My personal favorite is the charming armoire casing that opens to reveal closet space, a mini-bar, coffee maker and safe. If you’re celebrating something special, think about getting a suite. It has a spectacular living room area, is quite spacious and offers special amenities such as lounging slippers, cozy bathrobes and makeup removal niceties.
I especially liked the atrium that runs centrally through the hotel. I relished being able to lean over banisters on my floor which overlook the exquisite atrium area. Guests can relax and unwind in several places including conversing on the plush chairs and sofas in the lobby, having cocktails served by a mixologist at the trendy bar or settling down in a quiet area with a book in the fifth floor lobby.
Enjoyment for Couples, Families, Groups and More!
Whether you are on a divine romantic vacation as I was with my husband, reconnecting with family or your group or organization wants to do something extraordinary, Le Méridien is an impeccable choice! Order one of their fine wines with a cheese board and have it sent to your suite. Be sure to take advantage of the delectable cuisine. I ordered room service twice during my stay! All of the fare on the menu was simply delicious. If you want to dress up to go out, but rather stay in, enjoy dinner at their Amuse Brasserie Restaurant and Bar. Their Conference Centre includes the Trumbauer Ballroom, The Roden Room, The Barnes Room and The Abele Library. I tend to play favorites at times! I absolutely loved the Abele Library! This distinctive, elegant room will be a great choice for any event that you are hosting.

Philadelphia Tourism Sites – Your Key to the City
Now that you’ve found the perfect hotel that is central to all of the surrounding attractions, it’s time to go sightseeing! Touring historic Philadelphia was all that I imagined it to be and much more! Tony and I walked the actual halls and grounds that the founding fathers walked. The history books came alive for me as I trekked from place to place! Seeing The Liberty Bell for the first time was an awe-inspiring experience for me. I felt like I was unearthing so much of America’s history and it was so very exciting and exhilarating! If you’ve visited before, you should rediscover it for the first time! If, like me, you have never been, experience this great culture firsthand! The best thing to do is search the city’s official tourism, visitors or travel sites. For Philadelphia, it is Visit Philadelphia http://www.visitphilly.com/ and PHL CVB (http://www.discoverphl.com/). They will tell you about all things “Philly”! Find out about hotels, the most popular attractions, the best restaurants, upcoming special events, conventions, meeting space and more! More specifically, PHL CVB assists meeting planners, tour operators, convention organizers and international travelers.

Philly by Segway Tours! This is Just the Best!
“You know you wanna ride one….” That’s the theme on their card. Let me change that. “You know you gotta ride one!” It was such an exhilarating feeling for us to ride a Segway for the first time. Okay! It was awesome. What was especially cool was that we selected the “2-Hour Philly Cheesesteak Tour”. Our guide, Owen, did a great job! We glided on the roads as we made our way through Old City, Chinatown, Center City, Italian Market, Society Hill and Market Street. The best part of this tour was that there were FREE cheesesteak samples from Pat’s, Geno’s, Jim’s, Campo’s and Sonny’s! The cheesesteaks were mouthwatering and embarrassingly lip-smacking! I’m glad I finally made it to Philly to taste a “real” cheesesteak! A great tip for you! Try your sandwich with Cheese Whiz! Tony and I loved it! We liked it so much, we went back to several of the restaurants throughout our stay! Check out the Philly by Segway Tour website at www.phillytourhub.com for information on all of its great tours that include private driving tours, walking tours and scavenger hunts. The cool Segway Tours include four great options. You’ll love it!

Reading Terminal Market is Must-See
The legendary Reading Terminal Market opened in 1892 and features bakeries, beverages, dairy, housewares, fresh meat, seafood, produce, restaurants, specialty foods and Pennsylvania Dutch merchandise. I have a sweet tooth and savored the taste of desserts from Mueller Chocolate Co (www.muellerschocolate.com), Sweet as Fudge Candy Shoppe (www.sweetasfudge.com) and Termini Brothers Bakery (www.termini.com). We had a delicious lunch at Keven Parker’s Soul Food Café. The fried chicken was really kickin’! Check them out at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kevin-Parker-Soul-Food-Cafe/115756891933017.
